Dr. Hal Krenkel, DPT

Education

Dr. Krenkel is a 2003 graduate of The University of Michigan where he earned his B.S. in Movement Science in the school of Kinesiology. He later received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2007 from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, where he graduated with honors.

At Force Physical Therapy

Dr. Krenkel is one of the founding partners at Force Physical Therapy. He specializes in individualized physical therapy treatment plans based on a patient’s specific goals and is an accomplished manual therapist. Dr. Krenkel specializes in rehabilitation of the high-level athlete and is skilled at using these techniques to safely progress clients of all ages and physical abilities.

Dr. Krenkel has a passion for educating future students and serves as the Center Coordinator for Clinical Education (CCCE) for all Force Physical Therapy clinics. At these clinics Force has educated students from University of Miami, Florida International University, New York University, University of Ohio, and many others.

Prior to Force Physical Therapy

Prior to Force Physical Therapy, Dr. Krenkel gained valuable experience at Jackson Memorial Hospital. There, he had the opportunity to work in numerous settings including Orthopedics, Neurological Rehab, and Spinal Cord Injury Rehab. Additionally, he was one of the founding partners of Jaguar Therapeutics, Aventura and Coconut Grove.

Athletic Experience

Dr. Krenkel is an avid Ice Hockey player who remains active with the South Florida Hockey community. While studying in Ann Arbor, he served as the head coach of the U of M women’s ice hockey program from 2000-2003 as the youngest coach in the CCWHA. He led the Wolverines to a CCWHA title and 3 consecutive trips to the ACHA national championship tournament. Additionally, Dr. Krenkel served 2 years as Director of Ice Hockey at Camp All-Star in Augusta, Maine.


Dr. Christopher Ellis, DPT, ATC, CSCS

Education

Dr. Ellis is a 2004 graduate of Canisius College, Buffalo, New York where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training (ATC). He received his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) in 2007 from University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) sanctioned by the National Strength and Conditioning Association since 2011.

At Force Physical Therapy

Dr. Ellis is one of the founding partners of Force Physical Therapy. He specializes in manual therapy and rehabilitation of the elite athlete and has treated hundreds of professional athletes in South Florida, including NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA, Tennis and Golf athletes. As both an ATC and DPT, Dr. Ellis has a unique experience of working with athletes on the field at the time of injury, as well as off the field directing post-surgical and post-injury rehabilitation. He is a member of the US Olympic Sailing rehab team as a physical therapist and athletic trainer. Additionally, Dr. Ellis is the preferred provider for Bommarito Performance Systems where he oversees rehabilitation programs for professional, collegiate, and high-school athletes. He has been a key member of the rehabilitation team with the hugely successful Bommarito performance NFL combine training program.

Prior to Force Physical Therapy

Prior to Force Physical Therapy, Dr. Ellis gained valuable experience working in multiple out-patient sports medicine clinics. Additionally, he was one of the founding partners of Jaguar Therapeutics, Aventura and Coconut Grove.

Athletic Experience

Dr. Ellis works with many professional, collegiate, and high school athletic teams. He also serves as Director of Medical Operations for Bommarito Performance Systems and the US Sailing Team.


Dr. Luis G. Fernandez, DPT

Education

Dr. Fernandez is a 2006 graduate of Florida International University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Concentration: Finance). In 2014, he earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Florida International University in Miami, Florida.

Prior to Force Physical Therapy

Prior to Force Physical Therapy, Dr. Fernandez gained valuable experience working at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center. There he had the opportunity to work in various settings including Orthopedics, Neurological Rehab, Acute Care and Trauma Rehab. Additionally, Dr. Fernandez completed a 10-week internship at Force Physical Therapy where he furthered his passion for sports and orthopedic rehab.

Athletic Experience

Dr. Fernandez grew up playing and continues to play competitively numerous sports including flag football, volleyball (beach and indoor), tennis, and basketball. He continues to remain active with the South Florida flag football community.


Dr. Katelyn Schuster, DPT

Education

Dr. Schuster is a 2013 graduate of Ashland University in Ohio where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science. She earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from Ohio University in 2016. Prior to graduation, Dr. Schuster completed her final clinical internship with Force Physical Therapy, advancing her manual therapy skills and experience in sports physical therapy.

Prior to Force Physical Therapy

Prior to Force Physical Therapy, Dr. Schuster gained valuable experience working at Proflex Physical Therapy, a privately-owned outpatient facility in Waldorf, Maryland. There, she had exposure treating a variety of orthopedic conditions and worked with the local high school athletes. Dr. Schuster was also the Physical Therapist assigned to treat the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, a minor league baseball team in Waldorf.

Athletic Experience

Dr. Schuster was on the Varsity Track & Field team at Ashland University competing in the hammer throw, weight throw, and shotput. Following her track & field career, she competed with the Club Volleyball team at Ashland as well. She also played volleyball, basketball, softball, and track while in high school. She plans to continue playing competitive volleyball.


Dr. Bethany Cook, PT, DPT

Education

Dr. Cook is a 2010 graduate of Campbell University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education. She later received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) in 2016 from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.

Outside of Force Physical Therapy

Dr. Cook also works as a physical therapist for Nicklaus Children’s Hospital U21 Sports Medicine program. She leads preventative ACL injury wellness programs and works one-on-one with post-op ACL athletes during their jump test training to return them safely to sport.

Areas of Interest

Dr. Cook has a passion for empowering athletes of all levels to care for their bodies and know their rehabilitation process. She regularly communicates with coaches and trainers in the community to build a network for her athletes to receive cohesive care, and is currently working towards becoming a Sports Certified Specialist (SCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists.

Athletic Experience

Dr. Cook spent eleven years in gymnastics, competing at a young age. She was also a three sport high school athlete, participating in volleyball, basketball, and track. She completed an athletic training internship with the North Carolina FC (previously Carolina RailHawks FC) of the USL during their 2012 season.


Dr. Micah Kust DPT, ATC, CSCS

Education

Dr. Kust is a 2013 graduate of Luther College in Decorah, IA where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Athletic Training. He received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2016. Dr. Kust has also been a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist since 2015. He completed his final two clinical internships at Force Physical Therapy and EXOS in Frisco, TX focusing on sports performance physical therapy.

Areas of Interest

Dr. Kust has a passion for optimizing movement to prevent injury and improve performance. He is a diehard sports fan and has interests in treating all athletes in any sport from recreational to professional. He believes everyone should have the capacity to perform any activity free from pain or dysfunction, and his approach reflects that with a focus placed on movement and strength.

Athletic Experience

Dr. Kust played Division III soccer all four years at Luther College where his team won the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title and reached the sweet 16 during the 2012 season. In high school, he was a three sport athlete participating in soccer, basketball and baseball. Currently, he is an avid weightlifter with focus on powerlifting.

Cristina is a 2016 graduate from Florida International University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education: Sports and Fitness. Cristina plans to further her career by pursuing a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Growing up she was always involved in competitive soccer and continues to play recreationally in her free time. Cristina completed her final undergraduate internship with Force in 2016 where she developed her passion for physical therapy.


Erika Bird, Administrative Assistant

Erika graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from Florida Atlantic University. Erika will continue her education by pursing a Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy. She has always had a passion for fitness and helping others reach their goals. That passion grew as she completed her internship with Force in 2017.
